What type of music
does
George Poe Trio play?
The band performs a fresh blend of jazz and
pop. While most of the songs are the trio's version of standards and classics
from the 'American Songbook', the guys manage to slip in contemporary tunes and
even a rock-n-roll classic into their sets from time to time.

I know the trio plays
'Crooner Classics', but can they play
soft 'Cocktail Hour' type music for my event?
Many of the events that George Poe Trio
is hired for doesn't call for vocal music to be played for the entire
event. For these occasions, the band offers a set of instrumental music
that even without singing, creates a warm ambience for the attendees.

We refer to these musical pieces as 'audible wallpaper'. These
arrangements are perfect for any cocktail hour because it's not sappy
'elevator music' or demanding jazz
tunes that are inaccessible to the casual listener. The trio finds the
perfect blend of music to play determined by the dynamics of the
evening. A history of playing in various small restaurants has honed the
trio's ability to playing at low volumes without compromising the
quality of sound.
Does GP3 travel outside of the
Greater Houston area to perform?
Yes, the trio
frequently performs for events located in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas,
Galveston, Richmond, Victoria, etc.
Does the
trio perform for outside venues?
Yes, the trio
frequently performs at outdoor events.
However, if
severe or inclement weather is occurring or is forecasted, the event planner has
the option to move the band indoors. The band has invested thousands of dollars
in equipment that could be ruined during inclement weather. Therefore, on the
day of the performance, we will print the
www.weather.com hour-by-hour forecast for venue's zip code. If the chance of
rain is 35% or greater for any hour during the duration of when the trio is
scheduled to play, they will not be able to play outdoors. In addition, if the
band has set up outdoors, and if any rain begins falling during the event, the
band shall immediately take down their equipment, and cease playing outdoors.
The event planner would have the option to have the band relocate and set up
indoors to perform if there is more than 2 hours remaining for the scheduled
time.
Does the price of
the bid
include the travel and set-up time?
Yes, our price
quotes are the total price from 'door step to door step'.
How early does the band
arrive to the event?
The band
prefers to arrive at least 1 1/2 - 2 hours before the guests begin arriving to the
venue.
Why so early?
This ensures
adequate time for the guys to load in equipment, sound check, change in to dress
clothes, finalize last minute details with the event planner.
How soon
should I book the trio for my event?
Many people are shocked to find out that we
book in as far advance as we do (sometimes over a year in advance). Saturdays
and popular dates go pretty fast. So the answer is simple “as soon as possible”
here's why:
Although Fridays and Sundays are becoming
quite popular for the weddings we play, the most popular day of the week is still Saturday.
The most popular months of the year for weddings are April through October. By
doing the math, you can see that there are approximately 30 prime Saturdays per
year. Many wedding vendors (photographers, bands, etc.) are only able to offer
their services to one customer per day.
How much is the
deposit to
secure the trio for my event?
$150.00 for
events in the greater Houston area, $300.00 for out-of-town venues.
We have chosen to keep the 'signing price' low to help
clients. Keeping the deposit amount at a minimum allows potential customers to
lock in an event date with us as early as they possibly can, and then reconcile
the remainder closer to the event date.

always include formal attire (dark jackets, slacks, and ties).

is needed for the trio's set up area?

requirement for equipment is an 8' x 10' area (with easy access to electrical).

band for smaller venues
Do you provide your own sound equipment?
Yes, we
provide a self-contained system to accommodate the size of the venue.
Even the very best and most well-maintained
equipment can malfunction at some point. George Poe Trio is prepared in case
this happens at your event. We bring a replacement components with us to each
and every event. This assures that in the unlikely event of an equipment
failure, we will be able to continue within moments.
Can you run your
sound
through a large house system?
Yes, we can
'line out' from our system into a larger ballroom or stage system. For more
detailed information about how this is done, simply mention this option in the
notes section of the bid request.
Do you provide your
own
lighting equipment?
Unfortunately, this is not a
service that we offer to clients at the current time.
Can the trio learn
a special
song for my event such as 'our song' for the first dance?
Absolutely, music is our
business, simply submit this request to us 2 weeks prior to the date of your
event to be eligible for this extra service. George will work up an custom
arrangement of the song that will sound the best for the instrumentation of the
trio (vocal, piano, bass, and drums). Be sure to include the name of the
recording artist of the version you would like the trio to most closely match.
If you are able to find an online performance of the song at a service such as
YouTube, it would be most helpful to determining the tempo of the song (which
can vary from performer).
STIPULATIONS:
As much as George loves offering this extra service to clients, we must limit
song arrangements to one per event to ensure the best performance. There
may be a small fee may be associated with this service if the band is required
to purchase sheet music, CDs, etc.
Can the trio play a mp3
recording through their sound system for the first dance?
Yes, even though the trio is not
a DJ service, we offer to play a prearranged mp3 song for the event. Mail a CD
of the recording to us 2 weeks prior to the date of your event. The song(s) will
be uploaded into the band's mp3 player.
Are you able
to play CDs that I
bring to my event?
Unfortunately, this is not a
service that we offer to clients at the current time.
Are
you able to accept credit card payments for deposits and/or the total amount of
the hiring fee?
Yes. We process
electronic payments through
PayPal's secured online system for customers that prefer to pay with credit
cards.
Can we
submit a "Do Not Play"
list?
In addition to allowing GP3
customers to submit request from our master list, we will gladly honor any songs
(breakup-divorce, infidelity, etc.) specified on a "Do Not Play" list.
Can a member of
my event
perform with the band?
While we enjoy and encourage
audience participation, we feel responsible to maintain the quality and
professionalism of the event. Please alert the trio to this request 3 weeks
prior to the date of your event to ensure there is adequate time to work up the
song.
We also following details: Name
of song, the name of the recording artist of the version you would like the trio
to most closely match. If you are able to find an online performance of the song
at a service such as YouTube, it would be most helpful to determining the tempo
of the song (which can vary from performer). If your party member is a singer,
the band will need to know the exact key the song will be sang in. If the guest
is to play an instrument, the performer must have their own instrument cables
(RCA or male1/4 input), guitar strings, etc.
Since the band will not be
available to rehearse before the day of the event, the 'guest performer' must be
available to run through the song 1 hour before guests arrive to the venue. The
trio will accommodate the 'guest performer' by rehearsing the song a
maximum of two times.
Does the
group ever offer their services pro-bono?
Yes, George
Poe Trio plays several charity/community events each year.
Do you take breaks?
If the trio's portion of your
event exceeds 3 hours, expect one 10 minute break taken at an appropriate time.
While the band is away, prerecorded jazz music will be played through the system
as to keep the ambiance of the room up. When you hire George Poe Trio to perform
at your event, there will be music from the arrival of the guests, all the way
through until the last dance.
